Dunera

dunera.de invited to symposium

Peter and Paul Dehn will be presenting their dunera.de project at the “Zugang gestalten!” (Shaping Access!) symposium at the end of October. We would like to thank the organisers for the invitation!

The motto of this years event in Stuttgart is “Taking on the legacy”. We will be presenting in a slot together with representatives from the Volkswagen Coprporate Archives, the German National Library, the Berlin Humboldt Forum, the Archive of the Association of German Societies for Aquarium and Terrarium Studies, Madonna – Archive and Documentation Centre for Sex Work and the Munich City Museum. Prof Dr Michael Hollmann, President of the Federal Archives, will moderate the event. The presentations will be organised according to the ‘Pecha Kucha’ principle: Each speaker will be allowed to show and comment on a maximum of 20 slides – each no longer than 20 seconds. Afterwards, Prof Dr Gerald Maier, President of the Baden-Württemberg State Archives, will lead a panel discussion with some of the participants.

It is not only a challenge to present our goals and experiences with dunera.de within the confines of “Pecha Kucha”. It is also a challenge to stand up to the professional archivists and historians on the podium and in the room and to successfully convey our concerns.

Accompanying digitalisation

The Symposium series “Zugang gestalten!”, undertiteled “More responsibility for cultural heritage” is held since 2011. The focus of the 14th event is “Taking On the Legacy”.

The organisers want to contribute ideas and experiences to the discourse on the opportunities, obstacles, challenges and changes associated with digitisation for libraries, archives and museums and their relationship to other institutions, initiatives and commercial enterprises.

What is cultural heritage – in these difficult times? How can it be preserved? How can access be made possible? What impact do decisions have on our cultural self-image? How does the concept of cultural heritage relate to the idea of cultural property?

Peter (l.) and Paul Dehn.

The “Zugang gestalten!” symposium will take place on 24 and 25 October at the Literaturhaus (Breitscheidstraße 4, 70174 Stuttgart). On the evening of 23 October, an opening event will be held in the Altes Schloss of Stuttgart.
