The annual meeting of the Dunera Association took place in November 2023. As always at these meetings, the committee was elected. The duties of President were assumed by the previous Vice President, Seumas Spark. The historian from Melbourne is a co-author of the two “Dunera Lives” books that were published in Australia. Spark succeeds Ron Reichwald, who did not stand for re-election after four years in office.
Peter Felder also stepped down from the board. During his 35 active years in the organization, he was its president for a long time.
Other committee members are Ed Lippman (Vice President), Geoff Winter (Treasurer) and Kate Garrett (Executive Director). Sparks’ predecessor Ron Reichwald is available as an advisor. Jacquie Houlden, John Ebert, Alan Lion, Michelle Frenkel, Karin Morrison, Jack Strom, Tonia Eckfeld and Janet Arndt were also elected to the committee
The Dunera Association was founded to preserve the memory of the 2,800 men who were deported to Australia on the Dunera and Queen Mary in September 1940. This work is now being continued by the generation of children and grandchildren.
